Internships are a Win-Win for Businesses and Students
Timothy Shea's Story - An Internship Grows a Future Employee

The following months led me to expand my writing skills by drafting press releases, letters and summarizing news articles written about the company.  When the department launched an online media room I became responsible for updating the website with clips of our press mentions, uploading press releases and other routine maintenance.

Throughout my time at Senior Lending Network I have sat in and participated in meetings, conference calls and webinars.  These gave me a first-hand experience of what it takes to run and manage a department like this.  I have a better understanding of the processes involved in working with other companies, media outlets and especially other departments within the company.

At Senior Lending Network I learned a variety of skills that have proved to be invaluable to my formal education.  Additionally, I gained a keen interest in media and the public relations industry and I also began learning how the corporate world operated.  I was very fortunate to work in a growing company and a small public relations department, where my skills were utilized and I learned how public relations works and how my interest in writing could have practical applications.   This is one skill professors can allude to but not really teach in a class room setting.

After graduating in May 2008, Senior Lending Network asked me to stay on through the summer which gave me some time to contemplate a career path and strategy to get there.  I chose to enroll at Hofstra University with the goal of achieving a Masters Degree Business Education.  I continue to work at Senior Lending Network and plan to stay to gain skills that will be the foundation for my future.
