Internship Grant Award from the NYS Department of Labor

Part 1 - attend an informational seminar.  The business seminar provides  the basics on how to run an internship program.   The first seminar, held on June 17  had experts speak about Company Objectives, NYS DOL regulations, Legal Matters, Recruitment and Mentoring your Intern.  Sharing their expertise were panelists Rita DiStefano and Sima Asad-Ali from Portnoy*Messinger*Pearl and Gary Barello from MSC Direct.  The student seminar, held June 18, included resume reviews, networking, NYS DOL regulations, websites.  Presenters included Stephanie Liebowitz from ProposalDocs and Mike McNulty from

 

Part 2 – Includes web information and bulletin boards, as well as a toolkit of documentation that the businesses and students can use as a resource.  Part 3 provides an Internship Coordinator to visit the workplace to support the student and employer.

 

NYS Department of Labor requirements are as follows:

Business

  • Must be a for-profit business
  • Will pay the intern at least minimum wage
  • Provide a minimum internship of 6 weeks
  • Have Insurance coverage
  • Sign a Learning Agreement including company and intern goals

Students

  • Between 16 and 25 years of age
  • Currently enrolled in high school or undergraduate  program
  • Must be able to work for a minimum of 6 weeks
  • Must have an internship with a business that is a part of this program
