Internship Connection Draws 1,800 Students
“This event was terrific. I was very impressed with the steady flow of quality candidates. These young people represented themselves well. They were well dressed, focused, and very articulate,” said corporate recruiter Patrick Cummings, manager, Prudential Financial Services.

“Thank you for this great opportunity…I wouldn’t have gotten to meet so many companies anywhere else! I bought a new tie for tonight and it was well worth the investment…I got four interviews,” said one career-minded student.

“For those students that didn’t get an interview, the event is a great first-step in a safe environment,” said LI Works Executive Director, Cheryl Davidson. “Students learned about Long Island businesses, saw a variety of positions within the companies, took advantage of free seminars, and learned about the competitive nature of the career process,” she added.

One of several LI Works initiatives to stem the brain drain tide, the Fair is held in January to attract students returning home for the holiday break and those enrolled in local schools. “The LI Works Job Fair was the perfect opportunity to help the Lighthouse Development Group find qualified job candidates as well as let people know what we are all about,” said Katrina Doell, public relations coordinator for the Lighthouse at Long Island.

In addition to learning about career opportunities on Long Island, students polished their presentation and job search skills with free guidance from LI Works’ team of volunteer business professionals. Mock interviews and resume reviews were offered on a one-on-one basis and a series of seminars from industry experts were presented to students and to their parents.
